CHEN TE-WANG


Chen Te-Wang was born in 1910, Yongle, Taipei, Taiwan. He studied painting in Taiwan Institute of Fine Arts. Kinichiro Ishikawa and Chen Chih-Chi used to visit the institute and teach there for a while. In 1930, encouraged by Chen Chih-Chi, Chen went to Japan to study art. However, after coming back to Taiwan he regretted choosing Japan over Paris for learning Western art. He dedicated himself to oil painting. Chen was not interested in the activities of art circle, and instead spent all his time in researching art. When appreciating Chen’s art, viewers can find his persistence, honesty and purity.
