Liang Gallery will participate in FRIEZE SEOUL 2024 for the first time

Liang Gallery is honored to announce its participation in FRIEZE SEOUL 2024 in September, presenting classic works by Richard Lin (1933-2011), a master of Chinese abstract art. The exhibition, titled “Approaching the Truth: Richard Lin Solo Exhibition," aims to showcase the extraordinary achievements of this artistic pioneer who bridged Eastern and Western art to the international art world.

In this exhibition, visitors can appreciate the artist’s early works such as “Clear Sky" and “Storm." These pieces blend Chinese philosophy with Western abstract expressionism, using flowing black ink strokes to evoke the essence of Chinese landscapes.

Another highlight of the exhibition is Lin’s world-renowned “White Series." These works embody the artist’s profound understanding and ultimate exploration of white, integrating Eastern Taoist concepts of “nothingness" with Western art movements such as Absolutism and Constructivism. Lin once said, “White is the most ordinary color, yet also the greatest; it is the color of nothingness, yet also of everything." Within the pure white, the infinite essence of the universe is contained, demonstrating the artist’s highest achievement in fusing Eastern and Western artistic concepts.

Richard Lin’s international influence is undeniable. In 1964, he became the first Chinese artist to participate in documenta III, establishing his international reputation. The Western modernist master Joan Miró also praised him, saying, “In the world of white, no one can exceed you." Major international museums, including Tate Modern in London, Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Moderna in Rome, Art Gallery of Ontario in Toronto, and the National Palace Museum in Taipei widely collect Lin’s works. These achievements fully attest to the excellence and unique position of Richard Lin’s art.

Liang Gallery, with its art historical perspective, has long been dedicated to the academic construction of Taiwanese art history and both domestic and international exhibitions.
